AISLS is pleased to announce the publication of Theresa McGarry & Liyanage Amarakeerthi’s English Translations of the Reading Passages in James W. Gair & W.S. Karunatilaka, Literary Sinhala (Ithaca: Cornell University South Asia Program and Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, 1974). The original textbook was produced with the assumption that the user would have access to an instructor, and does not include English translations of the Sinhala reading passages. This publication, commissioned and published by AISLS forty years after the appearance of Literary Sinhala, provides these translations. The intention is to make the textbook, which remains the best of its kind, more helpful, especially for those using it without an instructor. These translations may be downloaded without charge for personal use from the AISLS webpage on Instructional Resources for Sinhala and Tamil.
