British Library Sinhalese Manuscripts Pilot Digitisation Project

Despite this project’s title, the four palm leaf manuscripts currently available are Pali works written in Sinhala script. Two of the manuscripts are the Dighanikaya and the Majjhimanikaya, which are sections of the Pali canon. The other two manuscripts are copies of texts that were originally composed in Sri Lanka. One of these is the Mahavamsa, and the other is an ad hoc anthology of two works, the Mahavamsa and the Rasavahini. High resolution images can be viewed online or downloaded. The British Library has also digitized an illuminated manuscript cover, which depicts the sixteen sacred Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka.
