Depicting the Sri Lankan Vernacular
Hosted through Cornell University Library’s Digital Collections, this online archive houses photographs and other documents from the fieldwork of Bonnie and Robert MacDougall, undertaken in Sri Lanka between 1965 and 2012. Many of these images depict daily life in the village of Meemure, with a focus on the trope that considers the village community the root of authentic tradition and culture. The collection also contains a Resources page with links to related readings and videos. These include Sinhala and Tamil treatises on housebuilding, with Bonnie MacDougall’s English translations.
