Field’s presentation will explore the ways in which Sinhalese lyricists and poets sought to raise the standards of song and poetry between 1900 and 1960.
Garrett Field is Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology/Musicology in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and School of Music at Ohio University. His new book is entitled Modernizing Composition: Sinhala Song. Poetry, and Politics in Twentieth-Century Sri Lanka (University of California Press, 2017).
