The Penn Museum houses many artifacts related to ancient and early-modern Sri Lankan history, in part due to excavations conducted in 1970 in northern Sri Lanka (Kantarodai and Pomparippu). A search of their online collection for the place name “Sri Lanka” yields about three dozen objects with high resolution images. These include old coins, game boards and dice, carved artwork, and the eight requisite possessions of a Buddhist monk (atthapirikara). Additionally, the museum has digitized several reels of color film from 1955 that depict scenes of daily life and religious culture across the island.
