Victoria & Albert Museum Online Collections
The V&A museum has made many high-resolution pictures of their collection available to view online or download. Filtering a search by “place” of “Sri Lanka” yields over 380 items and ‘Ceylon’ yields over 1,000 items. Unique highlights include ivory carvings from the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries depicting Christian imagery, eighteenth-century decorative knives and swords, nineteenth-century jewelry, an album of sixty-three “company paintings” c.1830 depicting common Sri Lankan castes and occupations, Joseph Lawton’s 1870s photographs of archaeological sites at Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, and several paintings by Ivan Peries from the 1980s.
